DAWSON, Ga., Jan. 16, 2008 – The chief executive officer of Tyson Foods, Inc., (NYSE:TSN) toured the company’s Dawson facility today, where he announced the donation of a truckload of protein to help feed hungry people in southwest Georgia. Richard Bond made the announcement of the donation of more than 34,000 lbs. of protein products to the Food Bank of Southwest Georgia in Albany. Bond was in Dawson to tour the poultry processing plant on Industrial Park Blvd.

The announcement event was attended by community leaders, representatives from the food bank and team members from Tyson’s Dawson plant. Following the announcement, the Tyson truck continued on to Albany, where 34,464 pounds of poultry products were delivered to the Food Bank of Southwest Georgia on Phillips Drive. The donation is the equivalent of more than 137,000 meals.

“As a leader in the food industry, Tyson Foods is committed to the fight against hunger,” said Bond. “It is especially meaningful to us to be able to help communities where Tyson Foods has operations.” Tyson Foods employs more than 3,000 team members in Georgia, including more than 300 at the Dawson facility.

“We are very fortunate to have a Tyson Foods facility in our area,” said Brett Kirkland, president and chief executive officer of the Food Bank of Southwest Georgia. They have a great history of supporting food banks affiliated with America’s Second Harvest.”

The Food Bank of Southwest Georgia serves more than 300 agencies in a 20-county area. In fiscal year 2006, the food bank distributed more than 2.4 million pounds of food to those agencies. The chicken donated today is one of the most concentrated sources of protein, an essential nutrient of life. It is also the food product that is donated the least to food banks. The average person – man, woman or child – needs to eat about four ounces of protein per day.
